Dark matter has enjoyed a strange scientific status for decades: overwhelmingly necessary in our best cosmological models, stubbornly absent in direct detection. Galaxies rotate too quickly, gravitational lensing sees more than luminous matter can explain, and large-scale structure behaves as though invisible mass is doing essential work. Yet the laboratory remains silent. No confirmed particle, no clean interaction, no dramatic announcement that closes the loop.
